Atwood Flag

Atwood Flag
From the collection

United States Flag, attached to a wood pole, from the Atwood-Millett collection. It has 46 stars, showing it was made prior to the statehood of Arizona, New Mexico, Alaska, and Hawaii. That dates this machine stitched flag to Between 1902-1912. Daniel Atwood (1822-1902) and Caroline (Carlton) Atwood (1821-1911) moved to Westford by the 1850s. After running a farm off Concord Rd, they built the family home at 4 Graniteville Rd in 1880. The last of the family to live in town was local artist William Atwood Millett (1922-2007).
