Wood Panel

Wood panel, probably a box lid, for a Magic Lantern, which was a kind of projector. Glass slides often included images for geology, Robinson Caruso, among others, while slides could be elongated to hold multiple images. “E.P.” likely stands for “Ernest Plank.” This company started manufacturing lanterns in the late 19th century, and was eventually sold to movie equipment manufacturers Hans and Fritz Schaller in 1930. All of this company’s lantern boxes featured imagery similar to our box lid. It was donated to the museum in 1987 by the Abbot Estate.
