Howard Homestead

Painting of the Howard Homestead that once stood on Howard Rd. It was painted by Amelle B. Hand of Littleton, MA. Calvin Howard (1792-1883), a veteran of the War of 1812, built the house before 1853, and it sat on 105 acres. His son, Calvin (1846-1926), lived there with his wife, Mary Hale (1848-1915), with their children. One of which was Alice Mabel Howard (1886-1968), a librarian. After graduating from Simmons College, she continued to work on the family farm and at the Fletcher Library. The house itself was torn down in 1960, while the barn burned down seven years later.
