Ayer
Electric Road. Work on the new electric road from Ayer to North Chelmsford was begun this week and a good start has already been made. A force of men are clearing the land of E. A. Richardson, another is filling in Flanagan’s pond, while the largest force of all is working between Mr. Lapointe’s and Mitchell’s crossing. There was some difficulty between the contractors and the help in regard to pay day. The Italians refused to work unless they were paid oftener than once a month, which was the arrangement the contractors wanted to go into effect. Some of the help left. A satisfactory compromise in this respect was effected, with the result that most of the men were satisfied and started to work.
The part of the line which runs through the land of Mr. Richardson will probably be as hard to get in shape as any on the line. Part of it is through solid ledge and considerable blasting will have to be done. There will also be a deep fill across the pond at Mr. Saboll’s land, but it is hoped that enough material can be obtained from the cuts in the road bed to even up the low places. From present indications the new street to be built in connection with the road will be the best street in town. The road is expected to be running by Dec. 2.
The building which is occupied by Mr. Farnsworth on Columbia st. and two dwelling homes in the rear will have to be moved.
