Prescott House Photo

Ca. 1899 photo of the first Prescott House that stood at 32 Boston Rd. The house was built by Nathan Pollard Prescott (1817-1892) by 1875. His son, Nathan (1858-1938), inherited the house. Nathan, center, a painter and paperhanger, lost his left arm in a shotgun accident as a young man (barely visible in the photo). Pictured to the right appears to be his wife, Hattie Maria Duren Prescott (1870-1957), and daughter, Mabel “Mamie” Prescott (1898-1993). The woman and child to the left are likely other family members of the large Prescott family.

The house burned down on April 29, 1900, due to a defective chimney. The rebuilt house was ultimately owned by Nathan’s daughter, Mabel. In 1993, it was demolished and replaced. Mamie Ln takes up at least a part of the old property today.

The Prescott family lived in several other properties in town, including the still standing Noah Prescott house at 23 Boston Rd across the road.
