Sheep Shears

From the Collection

From the Collection of the Westford Museum – A pair of metal sheep shears, with hatch marks for cutting measurements. The shears were found in the Graniteville section of Westford, and were in a bail of wool from China. They were originally donated to the J.V. Fletcher Library in 1900 by past Westford resident Hugh Fraiser Leith (1870-1950), who later lived in Concord. The original backbone of the museum’s collection came from the library, when the historical society opened the museum in the 1980s. Hugh was born in Scotland, and immigrated to the United States in 1890. He worked at the Abbot Worsted Co from 1900 to his death, achieving the positions of Director and Treasurer.
