Abbot Home Photograph

Abbot Estate Photo
From the Collection

Ca. 1893 photograph of the John W.P. (1806-1872) & Catherine Abbot (1808-1891) home. John W.P. Abbot had a long resume. He was a lawyer, a Stony Brook Railroad President, involved with the Family’s Abbot Worsted Company, a state senator, and Westford Academy Trustee. The house stood around 45 Main St where Connell Drive is today, at Westford Center. The property was originally owned by David C. Butterfield (1805-1872), who ran a tavern at the site. The building was heavily damaged by a fire in 1859, and was subsequently purchased and largely rebuilt by Abbot. The rebuilt house was destroyed by another fire in 1914. Connell Dr was constructed there by 1955, named after past Police Chief and Superintendent of Roads Joseph Connell (1963-1993).
