Trophy Stein

Pewter trophy made in the design of a beer stein. It was made by Reed and Barton in 1897, and is 14″ in height. The inscription reads: M. V. M. / Cavalry / Carbine Competition / –> 1897. <– / First Prize / –> Won by <– / Troop F. / 200 Yards / Score 608. Troop F, Light Cavalry, originated during the Civil War, as part of the Massachusetts Volunteer Militia. After the Civil War, the troop evolved into an organization not unlike today’s Westford Minutemen, adopting the title of Co. F, Spalding Light Cavalry, M.V.M. They existed well into the early twentieth century, being involved in such events as the unveiling of the Civil War soldier’s monument in 1911.
