Hildreth Postcard

Color postcard from 1916 addressed to Miss M. Clark of Malden, MA, from Huldah C. The front picture is of the Estate of Ella Hildreth (1849-1924). Also known as Prospect Hill Farm, it was located at 10 Hildreth St. The 1908 house still stands today. The card reads, “This is a lovely place, and we are enjoying every minute. A beautiful lake is nearby and we are out rowing all we wish. Hope Teddie and Sir Toby are good. Kindest regards, Huldah C. Aug. 9-16.”

The card was printed by Frank W. Swallow Post Card Company, which specialized in local postcards from 1896 to the 1920s, and published by J. Herbert Fletcher. John Herbert Fletcher (1880-1960) was the postmaster in 1916, running the office out if his store at 8 Lincoln St (or 6-9 Lincoln St.), the John B. Fletcher Store. The Westford Post Office at the Center switched between the Wright & Fletcher and John B. Fletcher stores into the early twentieth century, depending on which party was in office. Today, the Wright & Fletcher building is owned by Muffins on Main, while the John B. Fletcher building is owned by Connolly Insurance.
