Button from a Civil War Soldier uniform that would have been worn between 1861-1865. The front reads: “Mass. Volunteer Militia.” The back reads: “Extra Quality.” The object was donated by the J.V. Fletcher Library by 1995, and was likely in the museum’s collection as early as 1983. Prior to the opening of the Westford Museum in the 1980s, the library functioned as the de-facto collector of local history. The library’s donation was originally considered the backbone of the museum collection.
