Featured Artifact of the Week

Photograph

Photograph (albumen print) taken prior to 1868, making this one of the oldest dated photographs in the collection. First developed in the mid nineteenth century, albumen prints were made with egg whites and silver nitrate, and were popular into the late nineteenth century.
The back of the photgraph reads:

A. C. Sargent’s Birthplace
Moved from location of present Graniteville Nursing Home ( F.G. Sargent Homestead) by oxen to present location which is now Sargent Laboratory — June 2, 1965.
