Cook Book

From the Collection

Cookbook printed by the Tadmuck Club in 1916. Of note is a general lack of instructions regarding the oven settings. This was due to temperature control not yet being a common feature in ovens. Temperature control would become widely available after 1950, with the patent being granted in that year (Patent# US2510526A).

The Tadmuck Club was founded in 1905 by Sarah Whitney Loker (1847-1943). The club’s 1929 Constitution stated, “The object of the Club shall be to cultivate an interest in Literature, and in the important questions of the day, political, moral and social.” They met at 20 Boston Rd, which was originally the District #1 Schoolhouse (Tadmuck School). The club joined the State Federation of Women’s Clubs in 1913. They were incorporated in 1930, and active into the 1980s.
