1875 commemorative medal of the Battle of Lexington, April 19, 1775. It measures 1.5 inches in diameter. Leonard Winthrop Wheeler (1864-1937) donated it to the J.V. Fletcher Library at an unknown date. The library donated a significant portion of their fine arts collection to the museum in 1983. Those objects were considered the backbone of the collection at the time. Most recently, the library donated artwork they received from the Atwood-Millett estate.
Leonard Wheeler was a lifelong Westford resident. He died in a traffic accident, which was the fifth in ten days in the greater Lowell area. He was a Deacon at the Union Congregational Church, as well as a member of the Westford Grange and the William North Lodge of Lowell.
