From the CollectionCa. 1990 Photograph of Agnes (Kjelvik) Scott (1897-1998), wearing a Norwegian costume she made. She was born in Norway, and came to America in 1914 to spend time with relatives in Massachusetts. While she had no intention of staying, the onset of WWI prevented her from traveling back. She took a job as a lady’s maid for the Abiel Abbot family, going on numerous trips with them. In 1919, she married chauffeur David Scott (1897-1971), who was born in Scotland. Originally living in an apartment once owned by the Seavey family — around where the library is today, they moved into the eighteenth century farmhouse at 17 Forge Village Rd, in 1923. She was a seamstress, and was also known for her baking and gardening skills. Those skills were often shared at the local 4-H Club and Unitarian church.
