Railroad Map

Framed map of Stony Brook and the Stony Brook Railroad, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, from around 1874. The map was printed on the back of an envelope. The frame measures 6.25 inches by 3.75 inches, and the map itself is 5.5 inches by 3 inches. It shows businesses along the railroad from West Chelmsford to Forge Village and was published by Asahel Davis of Lowell, Massachusetts.
There is an inscription on the back that reads: “This belongs to A.C. Sargent, Graniteville, Mass. Framed by Donaldson’s of Lowell, Mass.”
The Stony Brook Railroad was completed in 1848 and was acquired by the Boston & Maine Railroad in 1887. Although no longer an independent corporate entity, the tracks are still in use today by CSX Transportation.
