Postcard

The sepia-toned photo postcard features the #6 Westford trolley at the town center, dating back to around 1907. The motormen are identified as “Cutter” and “Sherlock.” In the background, the J.V. Fletcher Library is shown as it appeared before 1988. Street railways, also known as electric cars or Jolly Jumpers, operated in Westford from 1907 to 1932. The Branch Line, which connected Brookside (Nabnasset) to the Common, ran until 1920. Initially operated by the Lowell & Fitchburg Street Railway, the remaining tracks were later taken over by the Eastern Massachusetts Street Railway in 1929.
