Men’s Colonial Wallet
This handmade wallet belonged to Daniel Nutting (1756-1836). According to family records, he carried it during the Battle of Bunker Hill. Daniel was born in Groton and lived in Dunstable when the American Revolution began, serving as a Private under Captain Reuben Butterfield. His wife, Mollie Lawrence Nutting (1757-1838), originally from Townsend and a member of the Washington family, crafted the wallet by hand. After Daniel and Mollie were married in 1780, they settled in Groton before eventually relocating to Westford.
Accompanying the pocketbook is a letter believed to be from Amy Nutting Irish, Daniel’s great-granddaughter. The letter reads (sic):

This Pocketbook was carried by Daniel Nutting, at the Battle of Bunker Hill, His wife Mollie Lawrence Nutting, carded and spun the wool, wove the cloth and made the pocketbook, She was a decedent of the Washington family.
The card you will see was sent to Daniel, — Survivor, requesting his Presance at the ceremonies of the laying of Corner Stone;
