Library Postcard

This photo postcard shows Westford’s J.V. Fletcher Library as it looked ca. 1930. The photo highlights the view to the left of the front entrance, facing the stairwell and circulation desk. According to Playes.com, the card was printed between 1926 and 1940, based on the stamp box’s design.

The library building, which was primarily funded by past Westford resident Jonathan Varnum Fletcher (1812-1899), has expanded significantly since its dedication in 1896. According to the Fletcher Library, the first significant renovations occurred in the 1960s, with J.V. Fletcher’s great-granddaughter, Marion Winnek (1883-1977), funding the basement’s conversion into a children’s room. The building’s wings on the east and west sides were completed in 1989. A new renovation and expansion is set to begin in early 2025.
