Postcard

Ca. 1920 Black and white postcard featuring the home of Capt. Pelatiah Fletcher (1727-1807), who served in the Revolutionary War. The card was printed by Frank W. Swallow Post Card Co. Inc. Exeter, NH. It was published by J. Herbert Fletcher (1880-1960), when the post office was in his general store. By 1920, according to the 1914 Westford Wardsman, usually had a Fletcher as the town’s postmaster for over 110 years.

The still standing house is at 54 Lowell Rd. It was built around 1700. The property was previously owned by Pelatiah’s father, Capt. Joseph Fletcher (1690-1772). The house retains many of the eccentric features common in the colonial era. For more info, see the Captain Pelatiah Fletcher Doll House and http://www.54lowellroad.com/index.htm.
