Railroad Photographs

Photographs of Stony Brook Railroad during the double tracking construction in 1928, through Westford’s Graniteville. This railroad was first built in 1848, connecting towns between Lowell and Ayer, and was Westford’s first railroad, according to the Westford Gazetteer. The line became part of the Boston & Main system in 1887. Stony Brook existed in name only under B&M, and later Pan Am Railways. While still in use today for freight, CSX Transportation purchased Pan Am, eliminating Stony Brook as a distinct corporate entity, in 2022.
