Membership Card

From the Collection

The Massachusetts Infantile Club membership card belonging to Charles Lewis Hildreth (1879-1968) from 1944. The card measures 4″ x 2.25″. According to the 1944 Winchester Star, every state by that year had an Infantile Club, and it supplemented the still operating March of Dimes, which itself began in 1938. The aim of the club was to fight infantile paralysis.

Charlies Hildreth was born in Cambridge, MA, and later moved to Westford with his family. He graduated from Westford Academy in 1897, going on to become a lawyer based in Lowell. In Westford, he served multiple positions in town government, including Chairman of the Overseers of the Poor and Town Clerk.
