Like Stonehenge in England, America’s Stonehenge was built by ancient people well versed in astronomy and stone construction. It has been determined that the site is an accurate astronomical calendar. It was, and still can be, used to determine specific solar and lunar events of the year. The vernal equinox occurs on March 20 or March 21 each year and signals the start of spring in the Northern Hemisphere. As the Sun nears the horizon, following the vernal equinox path, you’ll observe the setting sun as it shines directly above the equinox stone. Hundreds of years later it is an amazing experience to see the setting sun align with the earth in celebration of the arrival of Spring.
