…..What do Hill’s Orchard, the Westford Center Post Office, and Boston Road all have in common?
For the answer to that engaging question, join us at the annual meeting of the Westford Historical
Society on Wednesday, Oct. 25, at 7 p.m. and see and enjoy the wonderful slides taken by John
Sanders in Westford from 1954 to 1968. His pictures provide a unique view of Westford just
before the town began to fill up with housing developments and the orchards started to disappear.
His views of apple trees in bloom taken from Chamberlain Road can only be described as
spectacular. John worked for the Westford Post Office and took pictures of the move from the old
post office building on Lincoln Street to the new location at 45 Main Street in 1961.
John and his wife Marion lived on Boston. His life was one of service, as a 4-H leader, a
trustee at the J.V. Fletcher Library, and founder of the Westford Housing Authority. He was a
dearly loved figure in Westford, so much so that he was called Uncle John.
