Photograph of June Kennedy

From the Collection

The photo depicts June Kennedy with Colonel John Robinson’s rum cup in 1975, during Bicentennial celebrations. June was born in 1935, and grew up in Lexington, where she developed an interest in local history. She moved to Westford with her husband, Charlie (1931-2017), and family in 1958. Interested in preserving Westford’s history, she joined the Westford Historical Society in 1965, and was a founder of the then separate Westford Museum in 1975 (opened to the public 1983). Outside the museum, she was a historian at Westford’s First Parish Church United, and founder of the Friends of the Parkerville Schoolhouse. June also published articles in the Westford Eagle, “Westford Recollections,” as well as authoring Westford Recollections of days Gone By. More recently, she received multiple honors, including the Massachusetts Historical Commission Preservation Award in 2000, and the Country School Association of America Service Award in 2014 for she and her husband’s contributions to the Parkerville Schoolhouse.
