Cold Spring Rd and Depot St in 1887

Google Maps: Today

Some street corners like at Brookside Mill in Nabnasset have not changed much over the last century. Others have changed more dramatically. The intersection of Cold Spring and Depot Roads is a major of example of such dramatic change. The location was once the site of Cold Spring Farm, which is around 55 Depot St and 3 Cold Spring Rd. It was the summer home of Jonathan Varnum Fletcher (1812-1899), of whom the town’s J.V. Fletcher Library is named. J.V. also lived in Waltham, MA, and had a business in Boston. The original farmhouse was destroyed in 1897 by fire, but the carriage shed was later converted into the house on 3 Cold Spring Rd today.
