Center. The J. Herbert Fletchers motored to Marblehead last Sunday. Mrs. Prescott and Miss Betty Prescott were their guests on the trip.
L. W. Wheeler is having electric lights installed in his buildings [66 Main St.].
Miss Julia Fletcher is convalescent from her recent illness. Miss Mary P. Bunce and Miss Alice Wright, who have been among the sick ones, are better.
Mr. and Mrs. T. L. Craig, of Gastonia, N.C., are guests of Mr. and Mrs. S. B. Watson, Mrs. Craig being a sister of the former. Mr. and Mrs. Watson have been taking their guests on some pleasant auto trips during their stay. Mrs. Watson is also entertaining her cousin, Miss Clarissa Coburn, of Groton.
Mr. and Mrs. Preston H. Skidmore and little daughter Elaine are enjoying an automobile tour this week. The Mohawk Trail, Ashley Falls, Burlington, Lake Champlain and Bretton Woods are among some of the attractive stopping places planned for the trip. Miss Elizabeth Kittredge accompanied them as their guest.
An attractive entertainment is being planned for the annual fair under the auspices of the Congregational church next Wednesday evening at the town hall. Booth’s orchestra, five pieces, from Lowell, will furnish the musical program and it is expected that Mr. Pickens, leader of the orchestra, will supplement with character songs. Miss Orpha Hutchinson, of Lowell, will be the reader.
The total enrollment for the opening term of school at the academy is 54 pupils—33 girls and 21 boys. In the entering class there are 13 girls and 8 boys. A new subject, community civics, has been added to the course of study, taught by Mr. Roudenbush. Miss Denfeld, the new teacher, has charge of the business course and U. S. history. Miss Osborne teaches the English, science and mathematics classes.
Mrs. C. A. Blaney and children have been visiting relatives in Needham this week.
Rev. Edward S. Tead, of the Educational and Publishing society, was the preacher at the Congregational church last Sunday morning, giving an excellent address. At the evening service Mrs. L. W. Wheeler conducted the service on the subject “The greatness of God.” On Sunday evening Prof. John A.
