Portrait of Grace Atwood

This portrait is of Grace Atwood Millett later in life. It was painted by her son William Atwood “Bill” Millett (1922-2007), who was the last of the family to live in Westford. The carved wood frame has gold leaf, and its aged appearance was likely intentional. A life-long Westford resident, Grace was born in 1889 and died in 1971. She was married to Nathan Millett, who lived from 1871 to 1955. Grace was also a nurse in town, and practiced from 1912 to the 1950s. The portrait was donated by the J.V. Fletcher Library in 2020.

For more info on the family see online The Atwood Carlton Millett exhibit.
