Crocheted Cap

From the Atwood Collection

Woman’s handmade pink silk and cream lace nightcap that was made around 1900. It also as a pink ribbon drawstring. Nightcaps were more common when houses were heated inconsistently with wood stoves and fireplaces.

The Atwood family first moved to Westford in the 1850s. The last of the family to live in Westford was William Atwood Millett (1922-2007), an artist. He lived in the family home at 4 Graniteville Rd on and off throughout his life, often traveling for his art. The Atwood Collection were items found in this family home.
