Red Mug

Red-painted cider mug found in the ruins of the cider mill in the orchard of Sebastian Bangert “Bassie” Watson (1870-1953). The mill, located on Tadmuck Brook off Lowell Rd, was in operation to as late as 1909, and also operated as a sawmill. The last owner was Daniel H. Sheehan (1864-1944). Trails surrounding Cider Mill Pond are maintained by Westford Conservation Trust.

Bassie Watson Moved to Westford around 1887 from North Carolina. He was a Captain of the E.M. Abbot Hose Co. No. 1, which was located at today’s Westford Museum. As well as an owning an orchard, he was also a trustee of the Union Congregational Church (now First Parish Church United), a board member of the Cemetery Commission, and owner of Watson’s Grocery Store.
