Every woman has a story to tell and gifts to share with the world. Since 1971 Women’s Equality Day, which is celebrated every August 26, commemorates the passage of women’s suffrage in the U.S. and reminds us of the hurdles overcome by all heroic women.

To honor this day, the Westford Historical society would like to remember the heroic women of Westford’s past, who despite the many difficulties, followed their own path through life.

  • With assistance from the museum’s Westford Women Dolls collection, through the voices of our program presenters, you’ll be able to hear how the lives of our “Wild Women of Westford”; Sally Carver, Olive Prescott, May Balch and Marian Winnek have made a difference in our town and world today.
  • You will enjoy samplings of wines from Aaronap Cellars paired with chocolates and cheeses from Lowell Culinary Collaborative.  (Please request if you would prefer non-alcoholic beverages)
  • We will be recognizing Penny Lacroix, Former Director of the Westford Museum and a present day “Wild” Westford Woman who has dedicated over 13 years to preserving our town’s history.

The Westford Remembered Doll project began as a fundraiser by Jean Downey and other needlewomen of the First Parish Church in 1985. They created doll likenesses of 12 historic Westford women. Today the Westford Museum proudly displays the collection of these dolls.

Join us in honoring four of these amazing women as we recognize their contribution to Westford and beyond.
