On a warm Sunday in June of 2016, a middle-aged woman from Illinois arrived at the Westford Museum. This visitor claimed to be a descendant of Scottish Prince Henry Sinclair, purported to have journeyed across the Atlantic to Westford in 1399, where he carved the so-called Westford Knight to commemorate the death of a fallen comrade. She claimed further to be in possession of Sinclair family journals dating back to the mid-14th century, detailing this journey. Westford resident and author David S. Brody read through excerpts of the journals with breathless, though sometimes skeptical, amazement. Not only did the unauthenticated journals appear to confirm the 1399 Westford journey, they also provided shocking insight into why the Knights Templar (closely allied to the Sinclair family) were declared heretics and outlawed by the Church in 1307: The Templars, according to the journals, were secretly worshiping the ancient Goddess, rejecting the Judeo-Christian belief in a single male deity.

A few months later, during drought conditions, a local resident showed Mr. Brody a mysterious stone formation at the bottom of a dewatered pond, not far from the Westford Knight site. The formation resembled ancient Goddess worship sites in Europe and the Mediterranean.

This enigmatic stone formation, coupled with the revelations in the Sinclair journals, triggered the seventh novel in Mr. Brody’s “Templars in America” series, entitled The Cult of Venus: Templars and the Ancient Goddess.
