Did your parents or grandparents have a name for the family car, like the Blue Beetle or Old
Bessie?

Join our book discussion group led by Ellen Harde, Marilyn Day and Linda M. Goodwin , where we will be taking a closer look at Linda’s book, Embracing the Horseless Carriage, Diaries of Alfred Hitchcock Hildreth 1901-1915. Alfred, who was a cousin to Charlie Hildreth of 25 Boston Road, Westford, named two of his early automobiles Trup and Steve.

It’s fascinating to read the book and then realize that many of the places in Westford that Alfred mentioned in his
diaries also show up in the glass plate negatives taken by Alfred’s cousin Charlie. Some of you may have attended the program at the Westford Museum last month when Dan Lacroix shared nearly one hundred of the Charlie Hildreth photos which he has digitized.

Linda Greene, director of the Westford Museum, has pre-ordered copies which will be available to purchase or borrow. Or, you may order a copy of the book, Linda M. Goodwin: Embracing the Horseless Carriage directly from at: lulu.com
